Board Members

Kelly Johnston

Kelly Johnston is the President and Owner of JFS, LLC, an accounting and consulting firm. She has a large amount of experience in both the public accounting and private industry accounting fields. Her background includes a Bachelor in Finance and a Master of Science in Accounting, with experience in the healthcare industry with critical access hospitals and physician offices, audit and tax preparation. She loves to share her passion for finance, economics and accounting with our youth to create a stronger and better tomorrow.

Phyllis Hunsinger

Phyllis Hunsinger has a passion for education, serving as a math teacher, middle school and high school principal, and retiring as school superintendent. After retirement, she worked for Visiting International Faculty, the Colorado Department of Education, and as an educational coordinator for GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). Phyllis has an undergraduate degree in chemistry, with a minor in English; her Master’s degree is in math/secondary education administration.

Eileen Blanchard

photoEileen earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and holds a license as a CPA. Her career began in Wisconsin working in insurance as a Surety Bond Underwriter. After moving to Grand Junction in 1983, and working as a CPA in a regional firm, Eileen successfully owned and managed a local Independent Insurance Agency, specializing in Surety Bonds and Insurance for Construction related businesses. She sold her business to an International Insurance Broker in 2005 and continued in a management position until 2010. Eileen is active in the community having served on both operational and foundation Boards, as well as in volunteer positions. As a successful entrepreneur, Eileen values the opportunity to promote free enterprise with our educators and youth.

Ron Harrison

RonAfter a short career in retail management, Ron began his education career in 1989 as a secondary business and social studies teacher and athletic coach.  Following his years in the classroom he provided teacher training and special project support for national education organizations like the Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity Program and JASON Learning.   Ron holds a Masters in Online Teaching and Learning as well as a Colorado Secondary Administration license.  Most recently he has begun providing educational outreach in the areas of money management and personal finance.

Kristen Rau

Kristin is a Michigan native but has called Colorado home for the last 24 years and the Western Slope since 2019. Her passion for economics was kindled in her Agricultural Economics studies at Michigan State for B.S. and then as a graduate student and teaching assistant in Cornell University’s School of Applied Economics & Management. Kristin is a seasoned entrepreneur, corporate director, and non-profit executive with over 25 years experience leading high-performing mission-driven organizations. She is excited to serve on the FREE Foundation to help promote and educate on the importance of freedom and free market economics.

Mark McCallister

Mark McCallister was born and raised in Grand Junction, CO, graduating from Central High School.  He worked as an electrical apprentice for a number of years before transitioning to the electrical wholesale business as a sales representative, a position he has held for the past twenty-four years.  Mark has served on several Mesa County boards.  His passion is helping and inspiring young people to be their best, and one way he does this is by coaching wrestling at his former high school.  Serving on the board of the FREE Foundation is a perfect way to channel his interests in helping young people.
